Paying it forward this holiday season

     For the 8TH Consecutive year I've had the pleasure of adopting someone, or someones for Christmas.  It's a tradition that my family, and many of my friends and clients participate in.  Expressing gratitude through this act of kindness is a heartwarming and meaningful way to spread joy during the holiday season.
     You're MORE Than welcome to join our Elf gang, OR, you can start your own elf gang.  Other than glitter, Mariah Carey on repeat, and tinsel, here's a guide on how you can start this:

1. Identify a Person or Family in Need:  Contact local charities, community centers, or religious organizations to inquire about individuals or families who could use assistance during the holidays.  Every year we go back to the Fairport Baptist Home.  This is where my dad spent the last few months of his life and where we 1st witnessed seniors that have no one for Christmas.  
2. Learn about Their Needs and Preferences:  Gather information about the person or family you're adopting.  This may include their holiday wishes, preferred food items, sizes for clothing, and specific needs.  Usually I get a 1ST name, and a list.  I may ask additional questions.  I have NEVER, EVER, had a request for a Disney vacation or flat screen TV.  That, is not someone in need.. One of our current seniors has peanut butter and jelly on their list.  If that doesn't remind you how grateful you should be, I'm not sure what will.  
3. Set a Budget and Plan:  Establish a budget for your gift-giving efforts and select gifts ensuring that they align with the recipient's list.  This helps in managing expectations and ensuring that you can fulfill as many needs as possible within your means.  The positive of working with your family and friends is everyone may pick and choose their budget and between the group you can easily fulfill someone's list.  I usually have people Amazon me, or drop gifts off to my home.  Matt & I wrap with care.  We add personal touches to show that we took the time to think about them like, handmade bows and ribbons.  We address every handmade tag to "Person's Name; Love, Santa."
4. Coordinate Delivery or Drop-off:  Work with the organizing entity to coordinate the delivery or drop-off of the gifts. 
5. Respect Anonymity and Privacy:  If the recipient prefers to remain anonymous, respect their privacy. Some programs allow for anonymous giving to maintain the dignity of those receiving assistance.  It's very, very hard to ask for help, especially around the holidays. 
6. Reflect on the Experience:  Take time to reflect on the experience and the impact it may have on both you and the person or family you've adopted.  Gratitude often comes full circle, and you may find that the act of giving brings immense fulfillment and joy.

     Remember, adopting someone for Christmas is not just about material gifts; it's about making a genuine connection and spreading the spirit of compassion and love during the holiday season.  Your gesture, no matter how big or small, can make a significant difference in someone's life.
